athenaClinicals EMR Software

By performing repetitive, time-consuming tasks, athenahealth's athenaClinicals EMR Software helps healthcare businesses maximize productivity and efficiency. Appointment scheduling, medical paperwork, patient information, diagnosis, and health analytics along with others are all managed by physicians using this software. The method allows doctors to dedicate more resources to their patients and less time to administrative tasks. This vendor connects over 160,000 physicians with over 100 million patients in order to give the most up-to-date, accurate, and high-quality care.

Users can examine the daily schedule and patient information on the EHR's homepage, manage orders, and view incoming lab results. The billing module has a patented and constantly updated rules engine that can be used in conjunction with the EHR or on its own. Visibility into daily tasks, custom benchmarking, proactive trend analysis, and other practice management tools are available. Patients can use a patient portal to look over their medical records, pay bills, sign paperwork, and make appointments. Reminders can be sent by phone, email, or text message, and patients can be notified when their test results are ready through the patient portal.

Users can rapidly get clinical data from a variety of sources. When it comes to treatment, secure text messaging is employed to assist in making educated decisions. Patients can access their health records, make appointments, sign forms, pay bills, and more with Athenahealth's patient portal tool, athenaCommunicator. Patients can also get automated reminders and updates about forthcoming visits, test results, and other things.

athenaClinicals EMR Software can compare a clinic's health performance to that of other providers, as well as automatically make clinical suggestions based on patients' network activity, thanks to the nation's largest connected healthcare network. Over 250,000 places of care, including urgent care, specialties, labs, pharmacies, and more, share information. The longer a client uses AthenaClinicals EMR, the more it learns from the network and gives relevant patient information at the point of treatment. When it comes to sharing patient data, many EHR solutions are extremely restrictive. Practitioners can communicate important patient data with a variety of other care sites and add it to a patient's chart using athenaClinicals, ensuring that physicians have all the information they require.

Many athenahealth services and solutions can be integrated with athenaClinicals EMR Software to aid with every part of a health facility's business. Medical billing, care coordination, medical reference apps, and more are among the functions that can be integrated. Furthermore, the program is ONC-ATCB certified and meets Meaningful Use criteria. The vendor's software training and support is excellent, and training materials are offered in the form of documentation, webinars, live online sessions, and in-person sessions.

Pros

The interface of athenaClinicals is easy to use and navigate, with a user-friendly problem list and intuitive documentation capabilities. It also includes effective scheduling software suitable for office practices.

Cons

It would be helpful to have a function that sorts the problem list by date, as patients who have been around for a long time tend to accumulate a lot of resolved issues on their list. Additionally, it would be helpful if the provider schedule view had more filters. During clinic visits, I found that I was unable to easily view the patients assigned to my provider due to other scheduled visits.

Pros

The software provides several features including Billing, a Meaningful Use dashboard, Reports, and customizable Encounter plans and order sets

Cons

I would like to request improvements in customer service and availability. Also, could you please make charting for one provider require fewer clicks? Currently, the process for completing a pre-op visit is excessive. Lastly, I prefer a better dashboard.

Choosing Athena for Surgery Centers is not a good option.

Pros

Athena has a feature where it can generate a medication list using the patient's pharmacy purchase history. This is helpful when the patient is unable to recall their medications. However, if a medication is added to the list that is not already there, it becomes an order that the provider must approve. This can cause issues when the provider does not want to sign off on the order. The patient history module is customizable to fit the organization's requirements.

Cons

It seems that Athena needs to work on its support for surgery centers. Despite being promised improvement opportunities in 2017, nothing was done and the team meant to aid me was disbanded. In addition, the list of prior surgeries is challenging to use, and we often have to choose the closest procedure available and add a note to ensure clarity. The medication administration module cannot be altered and includes some options that are deemed unsuitable. For instance, IV fluid rate is set in ml per minute instead of ml per hour, and IV start sites can range from the hand to rectal. The system assumes that medications are given based on verbal orders, requiring users to document verbal orders even though written orders are used most of the time.

Pros

The system can retrieve medical records from different facilities while also allowing for multitasking. The documents are easily accessible.

Cons

Sometimes the system may be slow in pulling records from other facilities which can make satisfying quality measures challenging. It's important to provide the exact documentation that the system requires for the quality measures to be met.

Pros

The software provides templates that are readily available for most specialties. These templates are simple to use and can be customized according to specific needs. The use of interviews and templates speeds up the clinical exam process, while ensuring that the Past Medical History, Family History, and Social History (PFSH) remains consistent in the records. The system generates brief and comprehensible notes, which can be quickly read by other providers.

Cons

The software has some drawbacks. It is more expensive than other programs, and some users struggle to learn it. Additionally, the billing software requires more work than advertised. The sales staff can be pushy and seem to constantly add extra charges, although the initial cost is open for negotiation.
