Pros thumbs-up

It was a newcomer when we implemented it with our system, and I've watched this software develop over the years. Today, I have acquaintances that use it for a variety of healthcare service lines. I can think of a few major advantages it has over the competition, like the flexibility it offers, which enables various service locations and various physicians within a single practice to view or edit EMR data. We can do a lot with it, like practice management and live EMR. What I love the most is the simultaneous access to information by several employees at the same time. which I use myself to simultaneously handle the primary care, imaging, laboratory, and physical therapy business lines.

Cons thumbs-up

It has a pretty cool system of customer ratings. It is supposed to let them rate the system and score client requests for advancement or suggestions for changes. It is a fantastic concept but so poorly implemented that we ended up turning it off entirely. It just took a lot of time to generate, rate, prioritize, and implement recommendations from the user community, which was a lot of work we weren't ready for. If properly implemented, this would actually allow us to focus on the best customer-rated recommendations that eventually receive attention and are accurately implemented.

Athena has something many other EMRs lack, a constant stream of feature updates. I mean, there are already tons of bells and whistles present but the developers are always working to release new features and improve existing ones. The team always pays attention to our feedback and it was evident when tailoring the software to our needs. They had a clear vision for what the software needed to do to satisfy MIPS specifications. The implementation process was not as smooth as it should have been, but we had help at every stage possible. We have effectively reduced our number of discussions we did with our finance department to just once a month. We have adjusted really well with the new way of working.

Cons thumbs-up

The way Athena handles subsequent visits is very dependent on users which naturally introduces user errors and necessitates constant supervision. Since patients frequently miss appointments or strive to squeeze as much time between visits as possible, most reminder appointment systems actually don’t work. Task assignment overrides (TAO) are challenging to filter for some incoming document scenarios and require some getting accustomed to.

Athenaone is the smartest EMR I've ever used. It's not only easy to use, but it actually evaluates the way you work and then recommends better ways to improve your workflow. All the patient visits are divided into five easy steps that are easy for a layperson to understand. The patient portal is good; however, the part that patients see might need some modifications to make it a bit more user-friendly. From the perspective of a practitioner, however, the software is just perfect. It has great and accurate billing and connects with most other EMRs with ease.

Cons thumbs-up

To start, the software was difficult to implement initially, and once that problem settled, another one was waiting. They had claimed during the sales pitches that the software was all-inclusive, which actually convinced me. The software is not at all geared towards a tiny practice. When they informed me that Athena was all I needed, they forgot to tell me that an army of billing personnel was needed for smooth operation! They keep all the files so cluttered everywhere that I would probably need someone to just sit and oversee the 20 or so boxes where they keep their communication.

Pros thumbs-up

Using AthenaOne, we have been managing our claims very efficiently. All of our claims are settled promptly and accurately with assistance of MIPS. and excellent reports generated by the software. Communication is also a breeze with easy text sending between users and clients. Software is versatile and works on all platforms. It works well with therapy focused clinics and makes constructing order sets easy. It has excellent third party collaborations that improve the software’s functions and capabilities. The support team is never hesitant to offer techniques that would further improve the way we work.

Cons thumbs-up

I almost always need external support with the reporting module. The issues are so different each time and break the module entirely until a tech support rep comes along to fix it. This is kind of sad since the reporting itself leaves nothing to be desired and when it works, it is just perfect. I have also noticed that the Insurance card copies from the collector and communicator do not interact with each other. Oftentimes the data is not properly updated and I'm hoping they fix this issue soon.

Pros thumbs-up

Athenaone has revolutionized the way we operate our practice. It has a lot of crucial features that work together, but if I had to point out a few, then it would be simple access to demographic, clinical, scheduling, and billing data regardless of your role. and the outstanding and detailed data collection and report functions that allow profitable decision-making and tracking of business functions. For us, it has been an ideal platform for creating and implementing workflows that just work and increase our efficiency while decreasing our dependence on employees. It also helps reduce the mistakes in our data entries.

Cons thumbs-up

They don’t really teach you how to use the software with all its offerings, and that is the only thing I don't like about AthenaOne. To this date, there are still some features that I haven't yet figured out how to use. Even after using AthenaOne for more than two years in our relatively small practices, we still have a lot to learn about the features and procedures that we could use to enhance the way we work. I wish they had a better training program in place to help out their long-term users.

Pros thumbs-up

Text shortcuts are very handy because they are pre-built, and one of the most reliable features of this software is definitely the templates. I can even create new templates and shortcuts from scratch if needed. This review can totally be dedicated to just how great the templates are in this software! It makes our jobs so much easier, especially since we have the ability to include text boxes and drop-down menus in our shortcuts, which further speeds up the template-building process. We have also been able to save others' time by sharing our own shortcuts and templates with our co-workers.

Cons thumbs-up

It looks old, to be honest. The overall user experience is poor, in my opinion. Which has made it very complicated, and the software has a steep learning curve. There’s no quick-access toolbar that would allow you to browse a patient’s file easily. Everything requires so many clicks that it becomes annoying. Not to mention that the doctor must click and wait for a new page to load each time they want to view a different portion of the chart. Having an option to toggle a single page option would have helped here a lot.
