Pros thumbs-up

Customer support responds quickly and is simple to work with. Scheduling across multiple locations works smoothly and the insurance verification color coding makes it easy to see at a glance which patients need attention.

Cons thumbs-up

One thing that really slows our team down is not being able to reassign a payment type without first deleting the payment. That process could definitely be improved and we also need a deceased patient status option.

Pros thumbs-up

Honestly there was nothing positive to mention. Scheduling was a hassle from the start. We kept showing up at 7 a.m. for meetings, only to hear they still were not ready and the conversion had not been completed.

Cons thumbs-up

We were never able to get all of our information converted into ONE. The X-ray features were unreliable and often did not work and we could never get the intraoral camera to open or function at all. I asked for a refund but ONE refused. The only thing they did was waive the $5,000 early termination fee and I still ended up losing $2,999.

Pros thumbs-up

Switching to Ascend from old Dentrix felt intimidating at first and nobody on our team was looking forward to it. The customer support team was outstanding throughout the process and really guided us every step of the way. They made a stressful transition feel manageable and helped us work through the challenges without a lot of frustration.

Cons thumbs-up

Insurance verification could definitely be more simple. I'd also love faster print options because even though it sounds minor, it can take 3 to 5 clicks just to print something. Power Reporting is also pretty confusing right now-the filters and settings feel overwhelming when you're trying to pull the right data. It would be much better if reporting were simplified and included a tab or quick link for favorite reports that saves my preferred settings for each one I need to print.

Pros thumbs-up

Whenever our office needs help, Dentrix Ascend's support team has been exceptional-quick to respond, knowledgeable and genuinely friendly throughout the process. Their ability to handle issues promptly and completely has a real impact on keeping things on track day to day. Special thanks to The team, who consistently goes the extra mile. She's patient, professional and explains fixes in a way that's incredibly clear so even more complicated issues feel much easier to work through. The team brings such a positive attitude and strong commitment to helping customers succeed and that really represents Dentrix Ascend support at its best. We truly value the level of service they provide and would absolutely recommend their team to any practice.

Cons thumbs-up

Using Power Reporting in Dentrix Ascend is more awkward and frustrating than it should be. The interface doesn't feel simple and pulling useful, relevant data often turns into a complicated puzzle-to the point where it feels like you need a PhD in Power Reporting just to get real value from it. Even after learning how it works, it still runs too slowly and reports take much longer than expected to generate and adjust. Something as basic as analysis ends up feeling like a drawn-out project instead of a quick step in the workflow. Unfortunately, the most effective workaround seems to be Jarvis which does the job far better-but only if you pay extra for it. That added cost just makes the situation more frustrating.

Pros thumbs-up

Right away it felt modern and user-friendly. One of the first things that drew me in was the landing page with charts and hyperlinks. I never had to guess what an icon meant or wonder where it would take me when I clicked. The graphs are also very clear and simple to follow. Once I started using the Routing Panel, that really sealed it for me. It is easily one of Ascend's strongest features. It helps us stay completely paperless, keeps track of where each patient is, lets us post procedures and even prevents checkout if something was missed, like taking a payment or scheduling recare.

Cons thumbs-up

Like with any software change there was definitely a learning curve. We moved to Dentrix Ascend in 2018 and entering patient insurance turned out to be a much bigger project than we expected. Our trainer did try to warn us but we did not really pay enough attention so that first month became very hectic while we rushed to get all the insurance entered. Thankfully, Ascend now auto-imports insurance tables so new users should not have to deal with the same headache we went through.

Pros thumbs-up

There is nothing about this software that works for me. After nearly 30 years in the dental field, this is by far the worst system I have ever had to use.

Cons thumbs-up

Pretty much every part of it is awful. There are constant glitches, treatment plans never calculate the right way and getting someone to help is nearly impossible. It really feels like the lowest-tier software you could use in a dental office.

Pros thumbs-up

The interface looks clean but the actual functionality isn't very good.

Cons thumbs-up

At almost every step it takes far too many clicks to get where you need to go which makes the whole process feel tedious. There's also no real way to track pretreatment estimates. You can enter treatment and send a preauthorization but once it comes back, there's no clear method for communicating what the preestimate says unless you go digging for it and check a small note you manually added. On top of that, the power reporting is a nightmare and way more complicated than it should be. You also can't print a report. We've had to contact support multiple times and although the people I eventually reached were genuinely wonderful, I had to wait on the phone for more than 45 minutes on two different occasions before getting help. When you email them, they just create a ticket without explaining what you're supposed to do with it so you're left sitting there with a ticket and no direction. At one point, it took over a month to resolve an issue with overlapping insurance coverage dates. We were completely locked out until someone remotely accessed my laptop at home and fixed it. She was excellent but the amount of time it took to get that issue resolved was honestly ridiculous.

Pros thumbs-up

Honestly there's nothing here I can point to as a positive. The whole system is incredibly hard to navigate and even the staff seem unable to answer questions or explain how the software works.

Cons thumbs-up

Pretty much everything has been a disappointment. I genuinely can't think of a single thing about it that I like.
