Pros thumbs-up

Setting up new patients and updating demographics and insurance details is simple and entering claims feels fast and simple, in my experience this is the third practice management system I've worked with and its claims-scrubbing plus clearinghouse integration outperform the other two, resulting in almost no claim errors. I appreciate that PA groups any claim issues into "buckets" visible right on the home page and from there I'm able to jump to the clearinghouse site to read a detailed explanation for why a claim was rejected or denied.

Cons thumbs-up

Although a number of the features rank among the best I've ever used, a surprising portion of the system feels very unfriendly for day-to-day users, the patient transaction history screens, in particular, are baffling and almost totally unusable for our office. My client's front desk staff simply can't make sense of that screen and when a patient calls with a question about their balance I end up pulling paper EOBs, manually reconciling everything myself and creating an Excel spreadsheet to present the account in a way that they can understand. Patient payments don't automatically reduce the total balance due , they must be posted directly to the claim , and once posted they are painfully difficult to find later, especially when a single payment covers multiple claims across different dates of service. Because the transaction history view provides only sparse details, locating a specific payment or entry requires an involved search instead of a simple scan, I would much prefer a chronological, line-by-line ledger that shows every transaction (claim, insurance payment, patient payment, etc.) so nothing has to be hunted down. Posting insurance payments also requires far too many steps to properly "clean up" an account, frequently I'm forced to change the debtor, move payments between service lines, or transfer amounts from one claim DOS to another to get the balances right. Patient statements could also be clearer if more explanatory details were printed on them as the current output often confuses patients. Finally, the Reports function feels basic and not particularly flexible and it would be a real advantage if report customization were simpler and more powerful so I could extract the specific views my practice actually needs.

Pros thumbs-up

Over the years I've been using this program, I've picked up ways to work around its various quirks and odd behaviors and although I come across a number of problems, the 'Cons' field here doesn't give me nearly enough room to list them all.

Cons thumbs-up

I've found numerous items that should be exposed for users to modify or customize because in daily use the transactions list for Adjustments frequently contains duplicates or near-duplicates , for example, ADJUST PER OFFICE is shown twice and entries like ACCOUNT CORRECTION CR versus ACCOUNT CORRECTION CR-RESUBMIT differ only by a single word , and the adjustment codes that are tied to particular insurance companies show up under the debtor column on the claim transaction detail page, when I raised the idea of removing or hiding those codes I was told that doing so would interfere with audit procedures which feels like a limitation that prevents me from tailoring the interface to our workflow even though it would reduce confusion.

Pros thumbs-up

overall I find the interface fairly simple to navigate and I think the system is generally user-friendly so getting routine tasks done doesn't feel overly complicated for the most part.

Cons thumbs-up

That said, all of the so-called "buckets" confuse me and I rarely find them actually useful and the reports feel lacking because they don't extrapolate deeper, actionable data, for example, I want to see which patients have been assigned to a bad address but the system doesn't surface that easily. I also get frustrated that adjustments and transfers aren't instantaneous, when I make an adjustment to one line item I have to wait for it to fully complete before I can work on the next line of that same claim.
